Hello, everyone! I spotted this tag over at The Bookish Chick and thought it looked fun. Really, it is that simple. Just was browsing and wanted to do a tag. No profound reasoning or thought behind it. How about that for honesty?
Author you’ve read the most books from:
That would be Christopher Fowler. I absolutely love his Bryant and May mysteries series. If you haven’t heard of them, see the full list of books in the series here.
Best Sequel Ever:
That is a hard one to answer. The curse with movies is that the sequel is never as good but I’ve never noticed that problem with books. The sequels usually seem just as good if not better. There are a couple I think particularly stand out, though:
A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab
A Perilous Undertaking (Veronica Speedwell #2) by Deanna Raybourn
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas
Currently Reading:
The Mark of Athena (The Heroes of Olympus #3) by Rick Riordan
Jackaby (Jackaby #1) by William Ritter
Drink of Choice While Reading:
Depends. If I am reading in the morning I will typically have a cup of coffee. Afternoon? Water. Evening? Tea/water/wine.
E-reader or Physical Book?
This is the great debate, isn’t it? Truthfully, I happily use both. My favorite books I typically will have physical copies of because I like seeing them on my shelves but otherwise I just have whatever format is cheaper.
Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:
What a weird question. I don’t know. Rhysand from ACOMAF is nice, although Rhysand ACOWAR is terrible. Lila from Schwab’s Shades of Magic series is amazing. I can’t think of any other characters that particularly tickle my fancy, if you know what I mean. 😉
Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:
I never, ever had any intention of reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Ever. I just figured they were over hyped trash. But, I gave in and gave them a shot. I’m very glad I did. A Court of Mist and Fury has become one of my favorite reads of 2017.
Hidden Gem Book:
The Collector of Dying Breaths (Reincarnationist #6) by M.J. Rose . Perhaps this type of book isn’t for everyone but I absolutely adore it. Rose’s writing is wonderful and the story is deep and full of lovely hidden details. I will never get enough of her Reincarnationist series.
Important Moment in your Reading Life:
One day I was on a lunch break at work and I wandered over to the Barnes and Noble up the street for a coffee and quick browse. As I meandered through the displays, I picked up an catching blue cover without much thought. I had never heard of the author, had no idea what the book was about, but I took it home with me anyway. And thus began my obsession with Samantha Shannon’s books which in turn introduced me to to all manner of dystopian fantasy.
Just Finished:
Last book I finished was The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. It’s my favorite of his Gods of Olympus series.
Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:
Contemporary. I just can’t do it. I gave one a shot, because I’ll try anything, and it just wasn’t for me.
Longest Book You’ve Read:
According to Goodreads it is A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas but I don’t believe that. I didn’t start diligently recording what I’ve read until 2016 so I’m sure there are other books other there, lost on my shelves, that are longer.
Major book hangover because of:
I got into a terrible book hangover after I finished A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. I was devastated that there would be no more books in that world and I wouldn’t get any more Alucard and Lila. Luckily, Schwab recently revealed that she will be writing more books based in that world! I’m seriously excited.
Number of Bookcases You Own:
Three but two are tall and skinny and the third is short and one shelf is full of board games.
One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:
One? I can only pick one? Okay, I’ll pick the one that I think I have read the most. I have read Searching for Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles #2) by Patricia C. Wrede at least a dozen times over the years. At LEAST. One of those books I will never, ever get tired of.
Preferred Place To Read:
Where ever my butt happens to be at the time. Oddly, I hate reading in bed. Crazy, I know. My bed is super, super comfy and if I even sit down on it I get dozy. Best mattress ever. Tempurpedic mattresses and pillows are awesomesauce.
Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:
“I will die. You will die. We will all die and the universe will carry on without care. All that we have is that shout into the wind – how we live. How we go. And how we stand before we fall.”
― Pierce Brown, Golden Son
I can’t even describe how this quote makes me feel. Powerful yet weak. Empowered yet alone. Brown is a wizard with words.
Reading Regret:
Letting myself get sucked into a hyped book that I’m 99% sure I won’t like. I let everyone’s love of it tempt me and I am often horribly let down. I’m looking at you, Clockwork Angel. I’m never getting caught up in the hype again…probably. Maybe. We’ll see.
Series You Started And Need To Finish(all books are out in series):
None. If it is a series I love and all of the books in it have been released, I will marathon read them. If I start a series I end up not liking, I feel no compulsion to finish the series. Pretty simple.
Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:
I always give the same answers for this because, well, they are my favorites. I feel like it is getting old but you can’t change your favorite books, right?
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
Searching for Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles #2) by Patricia C. Wrede
Unapologetic Fangirl For:
Sorry. Look for someone else.
Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:
A Treacherous Curse (Veronica Speedwell #3) by Deanna Raybourn. It’s out in January! Very excited to read this one.
Worst Bookish Habit:
Leaving books half finished. I unintentionally DNR more books than I mean to. I just stop reading, fully intending to pick it back up again, then it sits on my bookshelf for three years with a bookmark sticking out of it.
X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:
Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of Villainy by Ameriie. Oddly, it also has the most prominent place on my shelf at the moment, too. Strange.
Your latest book purchase:
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody. I’ve received one or two as gifts since then but that was the last one that I purchased myself.
ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):
Hm. I’m really not sure. I go to bed when it is time for bed and don’t typically let anything interrupt that schedule. If I do, it screws up the entire next day and puts me in a funk. I’m old enough to know better. Have things to do that require brain functionality.
That is it! Thanks for sticking with me. Hope you all have a lovely day.
I’m glad you enjoyed this tag too love!
I definitely need to check out A Darker Shade of Magic, I’ve been hearing such good things about it lately 🙂

It is such a great book. The rest of the trilogy is also fantastic. I know most everyone says that but it is nothing short of the truth. Haha.

That quote from Golden Son gets me every time. If you give this tag a go let me know, I’d love to see your answers.
And I am with you being ridiculously excited over more Schwab books from the ADSOM world. There was so much more potential to explore and I cannot wait to see what she does with it.

Great post! ACOMAF definitely stands out! I got such a book hangover after all the books in the darker shade of magic series to be honest. And gosh I love that quote from Red Rising (and the whole book tbh)
