Each week in my Book Spotlight piece I will be bringing you an upcoming release. These books are ones I am excited about whether they be from a new or an established author. This week we have an upcoming release from an author I have read two books from in the past. The first book in this series titled The Invisible Library got a solid 5 stars from me while the second book, The Masked City, wasn’t quite as good but was still entertaining.
Title: The Lost Plot (The Invisible Library #4) by Genevieve Cogman
Expected publication: November 28th 2017
Publisher: Penguin Publishing Group
After being commissioned to find a rare book, Librarian Irene and her assistant, Kai, head to Prohibition-era New York and are thrust into the middle of a political fight with dragons, mobsters, and Fae.
In a 1920s-esque New York, Prohibition is in force; fedoras, flapper dresses, and tommy guns are in fashion: and intrigue is afoot. Intrepid Librarians Irene and Kai find themselves caught in the middle of a dragon political contest. It seems a young Librarian has become tangled in this conflict, and if they can’t extricate him, there could be serious repercussions for the mysterious Library. And, as the balance of power across mighty factions hangs in the balance, this could even trigger war.
Irene and Kai are locked in a race against time (and dragons) to procure a rare book. They’ll face gangsters, blackmail, and the Library’s own Internal Affairs department. And if it doesn’t end well, it could have dire consequences on Irene’s job. And, incidentally, on her life…
Genevieve Cogman got started on Tolkien and Sherlock Holmes at an early age, and has never looked back. But on a perhaps more prosaic note, she has an MSC in Statistics with Medical Applications and has wielded this in an assortment of jobs: clinical coder, data analyst and classifications specialist. Although The Invisible Library is her debut novel, she has also previously worked as a freelance roleplaying game writer. Genevieve Cogman’s hobbies include patchwork, beading, knitting and gaming, and she lives in the north of England. (from Goodreads)

I wasn’t super interested in this series until I saw this one because I love sci-fi/fantasy books set in the US in the 20s, and now I kinda want to read the series lol.

The first book of the series is amazing. I completely fell for it. Admittedly, the second one was a bit of a let down but I think I just didn’t like the setting. I’m picking up the third in the series from the library today so we’ll see how that goes. You should give the first book a shot!
