Here we are, the end of October, and only two months left this year. Terrifying concept, isn’t it? I swear, the older I get the faster and faster time goes. I’m sure we could get into a whole discussion about how all time is relative but that is far too big of a hole to be jumping into today. Instead, lets have our October Reading Wrap Up!
To be honest, I did not have a good reading month at all. I’ve been focusing a lot on writing so the reading aspect of life has taken a nose dive. And you know what, I’ve found that I’m more okay with that than I thought I would be. I love writing, even when it gets frustrating, it is very satisfying.
READ
Roar (Stormheart #1) by Cora Carmack – I had purchased this book several months ago when it was initially released and had never got around to reading it. I am so glad I finally did. Roar is a light YA read but so very entertaining.
The Burning Page (The Invisible Library #3) by Genevieve Cogman – Okay, I’m not actually done with this book. I have about 50 pages left. I love it and hopefully I will get to finish it tomorrow. (Library find)
PURCHASED
Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper #1) by Kerri Maniscalco – Barnes and Noble
The Hanged Man (Her Majesty’s Psychic Service #1) by P.N. Elrod – Thriftbooks
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – Thriftbooks
LIBRARY
Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle #1) by Jay Kristoff – Borrowed this one and returned it without finishing it. Maybe I was just in a mood or something, I don’t know, but I couldn’t power through it.
The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss – Also returned this one without finishing it. There was so much back and forth between present tense and past tense that it couldn’t hold my interest.

LIFE
Just a couple items of note for me on the personal front in the last month. October held my little girl’s fourth birthday! It was the first year she really understood what was going on and she was full of excitement over it. Cake, presents, balloons, the whole nine yards. It was one of those days that I let her do anything she wanted and didn’t say no. We really had a great time and I hope she has happy memories from the day.
In October I also went to a Scotland Highlanders Festival. This was a first for me but but they promised log throwing, a sheep toss (not actual sheep), and hammer throwing. It sounded like fun and did not disappoint. Watching those men toss around logs was certainly entertaining and I had a blast rooting for folks during the “sheep” toss. Not to mention, fare food is always yummy. Can’t so no to those food trucks!
UPCOMING NOVEMBER
This year is going to be my first time participating in National Novel Writers Month, or NaNoWriMo. I’m really excited to be taking part in this event and, fingers crossed, hope to finish my novel this month. My goal is to write 1666 words a day, every day. I know it will be a little tough because some days I just don’t have the inspiration burning inside but I know I can do it.
I’m not the type of person to have a set TBR for the month, I’m much more of a mood reader, but Renegades by Marissa Meyer is coming out this month and I preordered it back in May. I know I won’t be able to resist jumping right on that one immediately!
How was your October? Any books you’d recommend for me this month or tips for NaNoWriMo?
So great

I’m going to be starting today. I’m mainly hoping it’ll be a way to get back on a writing routine, kinda laid back 🙂

This is my first time doing NaNoWriMo since middle school! And even then, I didn’t get through much, so it’s basically my first one too. 🙂
