Hi everyone! I went on the hunt today for a good tag to do. I was hoping to get my review for Renegades up but it just didn’t happen. At the end of NaNoWriMo I am mentally burnt and just didn’t have it in me to put that together this evening. So, in lieu of a review, I bring up the Reader Confession Tag! I spotted this tag over at Modern Witch’s Bookshelf.
Have you ever damaged a book
I’m sorry to say that I have. A few years ago I dropped a book in the tub and to say I was pissed would be an understatement. I have only very rarely read in the tub since.
Have you ever damaged a borrowed book
No. If I get a book from the library or loaned from family or friend I am super careful with it. I have a special spot on my bookshelf for borrowed books and they are put back in their place on that shelf every single time I put it down.
How long does it take you to read a book
Of course it depends on the book. Is it a book I love? I will finish that sucker in two days. Don’t talk to me, I’m reading. Is it a book I’m a little meh about? I will take a whole month to read it.
What are you currently reading
I’m a little on the fence on whether or not an audio book is actually considered reading, but if it is, I am reading Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. The first book I read by Taylor, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, was a let down for me but I am loving Strange the Dreamer.
What books haven’t you finished
If I actually sat down and made a list of the books I have DNFed I would be here a week. I have absolutely zero problem setting down a book if I am not getting anything from it. What I will give you are a couple of my more recent DNFs.
Hyped/popular books that you didn’t like
Again, I’ll give you three books here. All three of these I picked up hoping I would love them, expected to love them, and then I was so horribly let down.
Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading
I have my guilty pleasure books, who doesn’t? They even have a hidden shelf on a book case in a room that isn’t frequently used. For me, those books are romances. Picking up a tacky romance is the best way I have found to get myself out of a reading slump.
How many books do you own
I have absolutely no clue. Like most readers, I have a mix of both physical and digital books and have never counted how many I have of either. As long as I have books I want to read, I don’t care how many there are.
Are you a fast or slow reading
Normally I am a fairly quick reader as long as the book holds my attention. For example, I plowed through A Court of Mist and Fury in under 48 hours but it took me A MONTH to read Renegades. With the right book I am a reading queen.
Do you like to buddy read
Can’t say I have ever buddy read but I haven’t because I don’t want to. Just doesn’t sound like a fun thing for me. I’m going to read what I want to read when I want to read it and then I’ll share my thoughts with you lovely folks when I’m done.
Do you read better in your head or out loud
Well, the only time I read out loud is to my daughter so I’m not really sure. I think I would read better in my head, though. In your head you can get through it quicker and I think your imagination is able to process it better.
If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why
Now, this is going to sound snarky at first but I promise it isn’t. I would want the dictionary. Why? That way I can write books and have references to look up words when I can’t think of the word I’m looking for. Can’t own books? Fine, I’ll make my own.
We’ve reached the end of this tag! I won’t be tagging anyone specifically but go ahead and do this one if you’d like!
Great answers 🙂 It is definitely ok to put a book down if you aren’t enjoying it and to have an opinion that doesn’t sync with the popular vote.

I feel the same way about buddy reading. I’ve never done it because I feel it would just stress me out to either read faster or to pace my reading or whatever. I’d rather just read at the speed I want and not worry about it. And I’m a mood reader, so that’d make another issue. I love your answer for the last question! It’s such a creative and great answer 😀

I did not finish ‘Nevernight’ either, it was such an annoying book, I couldn’t make it past page 40. Those footnotes did my head in…
I also did not like ‘Daughter of Smoke and Bone’, although I managed to finish it. Decided to not read more by the author because that really wasn’t my cup of tea. I am not even interested in ‘Strange the Dreamer’, even though the reviews are all hype. I just know it’s not for me.

WHY DIDN’T YOU LIKE THE SONG OF ACHILLES?????

What I expected from a book with Achilles in the title was action, adventure, many battles, and it being told from Achilles’s perspective. Not what I got. My fault for not looking it more about it first.
You can see my full review where I talk more about why I didn’t like it here: https://literaryweaponry.com/2017/05/26/the-song-of-achilles-by-madeline-miller-dnf/
