Books that let me down in 2017

We all open each book hoping to love it. We hope to be transported to a new world with people and characters who elicit great passions in us. We want to be moved. Unfortunately, there are books we open with these expectations that fall far short of those goals. These are the books that I read in 2017 that left me disappointed. (Swearing to follow)

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. Come on. If you have followed my blog for more than a few months then you will know that I HATED this book. Hated it. If I had purchased it instead of getting it from the library I would have donated it or sold it to a used book store. This book was, without a doubt, one of my biggest disappointments from 2017. No, I’m not exaggerating. Vehement hate. Shallow, stupid characters with a shallow, stupid plot and they wouldn’t stop with the dialogue long enough to actually do anything. Terrible.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J MaasWhat, did you think I wouldn’t go there? Oh no, I’m going there. After A Court of Mist and Fury, which was fabulous, I was expecting epic read. Instead we were given this trash. Yes. Trash. It is like all the characters turned to pieces of shit and the plot was more interested in trying to be ridiculously long rather than good. Give me a break.

SeQuence (The Heart of the Ocean #1) by Lorraine M.L.M. I have never read a bigger piece of trash than this slice of mentally dulling, gender insulting, petrified piece of canine fecal matter. The lead female is painted as dependent, mindless slug. Somehow she is supposed to save the world with this crap but instead she has to be saved over and over by a guy who says he loves her but really just avoids her constantly. Fuck. Off.

I think I didn’t do too badly in 2017 if only three books left me swearing and wanting to throw things. I’m hoping for a better 2018 and so far I have read 3 books and not been terribly disappointed in any of them. What books let you down in 2017?

  1. It’s always so sad when books disappoint you 😦 I didn’t even finish the second book of A Court of Thorns and Roses! I don’t think I’ll ever try to finish the series…
