WWW Wednesday – March 14

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and was formerly hosted by A Daily Rhythm. It is open for anyone to participate, even without a blog you can comment on Sam’s post with your own answers. It is a great way to share what you’ve been reading! All you have to do is answer three questions and share a link to your blog in the comments section of Sam’s blog.

The three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Far above the crown of stars, there lay a kingdom cast in shadows until a daughter born of light drove the night away. And so the Great Dark waited a thousand turns around the sun and promised on its heart of iron to once again return

Heart of Iron (Heart of Iron #1) by Ashley Poston . Alright, the writing in this book is a little more on the Y end of YA than I usually like but it has still really pulled me in. The book starts with action and hasn’t stopped running since and I love that. The POV does change every single chapter between (so far) four different characters which is a little annoying but for the most part I am in love.

But everyone knows that the Breccia Domain is more than an empty hole in the earth. Who knows what happened to the queens who were thrown down into the dark? Into the heart of the island, where the Goddess’s eye is always open. Who knows how she kept those queens or what she turned them into

One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crowns #2) by Kendare Blake. When I read the first book in this series, Three Dark Crowns, I swore I wouldn’t pick up the second book. Well, I made a liar out of myself and grabbed it as audio yesterday. The pacing is already a little better than the first one but that is honestly not saying much. And the audio narrator leaves a lot to be desired. We will see how it goes.

What did you recently finish reading?

Technically, I’m a murderer, but I like to think that’s one of my better qualities

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. My full review of this book will be up on Friday, March 16th but for now I will just say that I was very unimpressed.

I mean, most people want to escape. Get out of their heads. Out of their lives. Stories are the easiest way to do that

his Savage Song (Monsters of Verity #1) by Victoria Schwab . I don’t plan on doing a full review of this book because for me it was very “meh.” Now, I love Schwab and everything else I have read by her has blown me out of the water but this one? Not so much. The story was there and could have been wonderful but it felt so structured that it felt more like reading a dissertation than reading a fantasy dystopian novel.

What do you think you’ll read next?

He presses the triggers. And like roses in his hands, death blooms.

lluminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I have this book reserved from the library so hopefully it comes in soon. Admittedly, I was not a fan of Kristoff’s other work, I couldn’t focus on the story with how it was structured, but I will happily give this book a try.

  1. You’ve been reading a lot of good books! 😀 I haven’t read any of Schwab’s other books, but I thought This Savage Wong was pretty good. I couldn’t get into the second one though. I hope you like Illuminae! It’s one of my favorites, and I’m rereading before I read Obsidio! 😁

    1. Schwab’s A Darker Shade of Magic is her best if you end up trying anything else of hers. Vicious fell a little flat for me and This Savage Song, as I mentioned, just felt so structured that I couldn’t get into the story.
And I will now forever call it This Savage Wong in my head. It is just a thing now. Laughed hard enough I got some coffee up my nose. Haha.
