Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads. I’m going to change up my format for doing this post this time. Let me know what you think.
Current TBR total: 149
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Royal Mistress by Anne Easter Smith – I am completely a sucker for this kind of historical fiction. Woman plucked from obscurity and thrust into the royal court as the King’s mistress causing scandal and drama? Gimme.
♦KEEP♦
Stormdancer (The Lotus Wars #1) by Jay Kristoff – Look, everybody loves Kristoff. I enjoy his writing, too. However this book has no draw for me. It just doesn’t sound up my alley and you know what? That’s fine.
⊗DELETE⊗
Ink and Bone (The Great Library #1) by Rachel Caine – A book where the Great Library of Alexandria survives and alters the course of history? Yes please! I actually have this reserved at the library right now, I am just waiting for it to come in. Can’t wait to read it.
♦KEEP♦
Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake – When I first read this book description I was fascinated. It sounded like a great story idea! Since then I’ve read Blake’s Three Dark Crowns series and I’ve come to realize that her writing style and I do not mesh at all. Not worth it to me.
⊗DELETE⊗
Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway – I have absolutely no memory of this book. Apparently I added it to my TBR in June of last year but nothing about it seems familiar to me. I just read the description and nothing about it appeals to me whatsoever. Easy call.
⊗DELETE⊗
The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton – A few months ago I actually had an ARC of this. I must not have updated my Goodreads when I started it. I’ll just say that this was a huge DNF for me. It felt pretentious and dull. Not for me.
⊗DELETE⊗
The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant – You may have noticed that I am a sucker for this type of historical fiction. I love them. I need this book in my life.
♦KEEP♦
The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell – This is another one of those books that I have absolutely no memory of. The premise doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever been interested in in my life. Did I just go on an add spree or something?
⊗DELETE⊗
Pitch Dark by Courtney Alameda – What in the world…most of this books were added on the same day, genuinely, I don’t remember this one either. Maybe I ran across giveaways that required adding these books or something. I don’t know. More purge!

New TBR Total: 142
I love whittling down my TBR to books I will actually read. It just feels good, like a positive step. I also like this new format, I think. Before, I would also put the book descriptions in this post along with the links but that just took up a lot of space. This just feels more efficient and less cluttered and isn’t the whole point of this to declutter?
Happy reading!
I like the new post format! 🙂 I think you’re right, it looks less cluttered and it flows well.
