Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.
Current TBR Total: 136
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
The Vatican Princess: A Novel of Lucrezia Borgia by C.W. Gortner – You know, I love this era in history and Lucrezia is an interesting historical figure. The thing is that there are so many books out featuring her specifically and this one doesn’t sound any different than any of the others on my TBR or that I’ve read.
⊗DELETE⊗
Daddy Darkest (Doctors of Darkness #1) by Ellery A. Kane – I love a good horror/thriller from time to time. On the occasion I dip into the genre I want something unique that will scare the dickens out of me. This just doesn’t sound like it will fill that bill.
⊗DELETE⊗
Murder on Black Swan Lane (A Wrexford & Sloane Mystery #1) by Andrea Penrose– As I mentioned, from time to time I love a good horror/thriller and this one is also historical which is right up my alley. My problem? It sounds like several other historical thrillers I’ve read. Nothing new. When I pick up a genre I don’t read often I want them to feel unique, not recycled.
⊗DELETE⊗
The Last Tudor (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels #14) by Philippa Gregory – This one is so simple. Another Tudor novel by Philippa Gregory? Gimme. Don’t even have to think about it.
♦KEEP♦
Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore – I’m having a bit of a hard time deciding this one. On one hand, I love Cashore’s Bitterblue. It is one of my favorite reads. Ever. On the other hand, the reviews for this one lack enthusiasm and, lets face it, that cover is trash. Sigh. While the premise sounds mildly interesting I just don’t think I’d ever actually take the time to pick it up.
⊗DELETE⊗
The Censor’s Hand (Thrice~Crossed Swords Trilogy #1) by A.M. Steiner – I’m not even sure why this is still on my TBR. I had this as an ARC that I DNFed. One of those books that I just couldn’t get into.
⊗DELETE⊗
Strange Practice (Dr. Greta Helsing #1) by Vivian Shaw – This book sounds strange and fun and utterly entertaining. I can’t delete this little beauty, it sounds like it could be a really great read if a little bit odd and spooky.
♦KEEP♦
The Mermaids Singing (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan #1) by Val McDermid – Is this my usual genre? Surely not but the description really pulls at me. A lot of the reviews describe this as a dark and twisted mystery and sometimes that is just something I crave. Not to mention the murder victims in this seem to be male instead of the typical naked female body found in a field nonsense and I think I’d enjoy that.
♦KEEP♦
Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle – Look, I usually try to say something nice about a book. A writer puts in a lot of effort and time to create these books and they deserve recognition for their hard work. However, this book sounds like something that would have me scoffing and my eyes rolling. Why did I ever add it to my TBR. *scoff*

New TBR Total: 130
Not as good of a purge as I typically have but still not bad. I really want to get my TBR down to only books I truly see myself reading within the next couple of years. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, life is too short to read bad books.
I always like seeing these posts and how people justify keeping/delete.

It is a fun post to do. Makes you sit and think about what really does and does not appeal to you in the bookish world.

I used to force myself to finish books even if I thought they were bad. I agree with you, Life is too short to read bad books.

I would force myself to in my teens, somewhere around the mid twenties I got over that nonsense. *insert ‘aint nobody got time for that’ meme here*
