Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.
Current TBR Total: 136
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
The Vanishing by Sophia Tobin – Alright, the description to this one sounds like an interesting mystery with spooky undertones which, right now, is right up my alley. However, and there is always a however, the reviews are certainly less than stellar. Life is too short to read disappointing books.

The Wicked Cometh by Laura Carlin – I’m on a fence about this one. It has a beautiful cover and, while the overall Goodreads rating is below 3.5, it has some very positive reviews from people whose opinions I trust. I think, for now, this one can stay. I like how it sounds enough to give it a shot.

Rhapsodic (The Bargainer #1) by Laura Thalassa – This one has been hanging around my TBR for a while, I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. It sounds really interesting and has great ratings. Going to have to see if I can get my hands on it soon.

Speak Easy by Catherynne M. Valente – Let me be completely truthful here, I even got bored reading the description of this one. Wonder how it ended up on my TBR. Maybe the cover caught my eye, it is pretty interesting, but definitely not a story that is up my proverbial alley.

The Shadow of What Was Lost (The Licanius Trilogy #1) by James Islington – For fans of high or epic fantasy, I’m sure this book would be a great fit. Over 13k ratings and still sitting pretty at over a 4 star rating. Trouble is, it takes an act of (insert deity here) to get me interested in a high fantasy and this one just doesn’t shake the tree.

Heart of Mist (The Oremere Chronicles #1) by Helen Scheuerer – I pondered over this one for several minutes before making a decision. It does sound interesting, and I love that is sounds like our main character is gloriously flawed. I may have kept it if it wasn’t for length. My attention span is disgustingly small and this book is nearly 500 pages with a moderately interesting sounding premise. Tough call but…

New TBR total: 132
I’m glad I came across these books on my TBR today. Both of the ones I decided to keep would certainly serve my reading mood at the moment. Hopefully I can find them at the library because they are calling my name!
Great post! The Wicked Cometh looks really interesting. Hope you like it when you decide to read it!
