WWW Wednesday – August 1

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and was formerly hosted by A Daily Rhythm. It is open for anyone to participate, even without a blog you can comment on Sam’s post with your own answers. It is a great way to share what you’ve been reading! All you have to do is answer three questions and share a link to your blog in the comments section of Sam’s blog.

The three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

What is the story behind the tiny skeletons discovered on a Guatemalan island? And how do they relate to an ancient Mayan queen?

Mayan Mendacity (Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth #2) by L.J.M. Owen. I finished the first book in this series, Olmec Obituary, toward the end of July and really enjoyed it. As soon as I was done I immediately downloaded the ebook of Mayan Mendacity and I just opened it up today. So far I’m enjoying it and I love getting back to the characters I had become familiar with and begun to care about.

What did you recently finish reading?

“Humanity was cruel, and if you were prepared to try to find a bottom to that cruelty, you had best be prepared for a long, long fall.”

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep #1) by Mira Grant. Pardon me. It is just me, here, hyperventilating over how much I truly loved this book. From page one I was hooked and did not want to put it down until I had completely finished it. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a book as much as this one. My review is drafted and you should see it up on August 11th. In the meantime, go check out this book!

What do you think you’ll read next?

“There was comfort in ignorance, in thinking the world a certain way and not knowing any different.”

Alice (The Chronicles of Alice #1) by Christina Henry. I have been wanting to read this book for ages but I HATE the US cover (not the one pictured) and couldn’t justify spending more money for the ebook than a physical copy which is how this one is priced. Finally, I gave in and ordered the UK edition of this book. I want it. I need it. A horror Alice in Wonderland? I am so in. My copy shipped and I hope to receive it in the next few days so that I can dive in. I CAN’T WAIT!

That is it for this week! I’m on a bit of a horror kick. It is just striking a chord with me right now. Have any good fantasy horror books you’d recommend? Please, let me know! I’d love to hear about them. The more nightmare inducing the better. The only thing I find myself unable to tolerate in literature is violence against children and animals, anything else is pretty much fair game. (PS, no King)
