Well hello there! It has been quite some time since I’ve done a tag and I was in the mood for one this week. Honestly, tag me more, folks! I love doing a good tag. I feel like it lets you get a little more insight into the person behind the blog which, in my opinion, is awesome.
I found the 20 Questions Tag over at The Orang-utan Librarian.
How many books is too many in a series?
Trick question. If it is a good series there is no such thing as too many books. However, we have all stumbled across a series that should have ended three or four books ago. Yikes.
How do you feel about cliffhangers?
You know, I’ve come across a few that have royally pissed me off. You get to the end of a book, you’ve been waiting chapter after chapter for something big to happen, then you are left at a cliffhanger and nothing actually happens. Makes me so angry. I’m looking at you Three Dark Crowns.
Hardback or paperback?
Hardback. Paperbacks are cheaper, love that, but hardbacks are more durable. That is the long and short of it. Need to toss a book into your bag? The hardback is less like the get damaged. Get fury face when the spine gets cracked? Less likely for a hardback.
No such thing. Honestly, my favorite book of the moment can change day to day. There are many books I love, some more than others, but it is impossible to choose a favorite. You aren’t going to trick me with this nonsense. Shame on you.
Least favorite book?
THIS one I can do. SeQuence (The Heart of the Ocean #1) by Lorraine M.L.M. I have never read such complete garbage before in my life.
Love triangles: yes or no?
I will not tell a lie, I am a sucker for a well done love triangle. The problem is that they are often very poorly done and it is hard to get on board with that nonsense.
The most recent book that you just couldn’t finish?
*ahem* My Lady Jane (The Lady Janies #1). I got halfway through and I just couldn’t do it. I realized I just didn’t give a crap about a single, solitary character. Once that dawned on me I just never picked it up again. I can still see it over on my shelf with the bookmark poking out, exactly where I left it months ago.
A book you are currently reading?
Uh, I’m not. Actually, I’m waiting for my Book Depository order to be delivered. Fingers crossed that it will be today because the book I have coming has me pretty excited. GIMME GIMME!
Last book that you recommended to someone?
That would be The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw. My review for that book went up (as of this writing) two days ago and it was, overall, a positive review. Anyone looking for a low key spooky, sweet back story romance with an air of mystery? Grab that book. I highly recommend the audio of it, great narrator.
Oldest book you’ve read? (publication date)
The Odyssey by Homer. Doesn’t exactly have a publication date because of its original oral format but there it is all the same.
Newest book you’ve read? (publication date)
The Lantern’s Ember by Colleen Houck. Since this was an ARC review and isn’t set for publication until September that counts, right?
This question is right up there with favorite book. I don’t have one but I can give you a list of authors I do like enough to auto-buy:
- Samantha Shannon
- Victoria Schwab
- Sabaa Tahir
- Pierce Brown
Buying books or borrowing books?
Both! Some books I just need sitting at home on my shelf to pick up at a whim. Most, though, I am perfectly happy to grab from my local library or through Overdrive/Libby. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARIES (if you are lucky enough to have one)!!
A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer. I have never been so bored, let down, and annoyed all at once. I understand that there are many, many fans of this series. I am not one of them.
Bookmarks or dog ears?
WHO DOG EARS BOOKS?! I SWEAR TO GOD YOU STOP IT, STOP IT RIGHT NOW OR SO HELP ME I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN.
A book you can always reread?
The Bone Season (The Bone Season #1) by Samantha Shannon. I love that book. I reread it once a year, every year. It is like coming home to a warm hug. Mmmm, love it.
Can you read while listening to music?
I absolutely cannot have any noise while I am reading. I am so easily distracted, it is ridiculous. I actually keep ear plugs all around the house because I cannot focus on ANYTHING if there is another noise. My daughter is so used to it that if she sees me pick up a book she starts giving me hand signals if she needs something because she knows I have ear plugs in.
One POV or multiple POVs?
This is one of those instances where it depends on the story. I mentioned earlier my love of The Bone Season which is a single POV. I also love An Ember in the Ashes which is multiple POVs. It truly depends on the story. Sometimes single works best for that is being told, other times multiple.
Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
Oh, definitely over multiple days. Even when I am 100% in love with a book I can’t sit still long enough to finish it in one sitting. Not only am I TERRIBLE at sitting still over long periods but I simply don’t have the time for that. Who does?
A book you’ve read because of the cover?
I first picked up Reign of the Fallen on Netgalley where I had requested it entirely on the strength of its cover alone. Turned out to be a pretty good book so I can’t complain!
Thanks for joining me, you all! Those 20 questions flew by. If you want to do this tag, then please feel free to tag yourself. Happy Reading!
