Music Monday -The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony

MUSICMONDAYS

Rules of Music Mondays: Every Monday share a few songs you’ve been enjoying lately.  It doesn’t have to be a specific genre, new, or one of your favorites – just something you’d like to share with others.  If possible, share a music or lyric video of the song and your thoughts on the song(s), artist(s), and/or music video(s). Today I bring you The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony. I love this song and the video is entertaining to me as well. Watching him walk along, not trying to run into anyone but also just not going out of his way to jump out of everyone else’s way. People get so mad that he doesn’t bend over backwards as to not inconvenience them. It is amusing and the song is one of those ear worms that sticks with you for days (in a good way).

If I recall there was also some hub-bub about this song being used during the Olympics in Atlanta without permission and the Rolling Stones also sued the band over this tune for sampling their music without RS’s permission.

The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, that’s life
Tryna make ends meet
You’re a slave to money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet yeah

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
Have you ever been down?

Well I’ve never prayed
But tonight I’m on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine,
Let it cleanse my mind,
I feel free now
But the airwaves are clean and there’s nobody singing to me now

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
Have you ever been down?
I can’t change it you know
I can’t change it

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
Tryna make ends meet
Tryna find some money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet yeah

You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

[Ad-libs:]
You’ve gotta change my mold, no, no, no
It’s just sex and violence, melody and silence
Gotta, can’t change my violence, melody and silence
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down

Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you ever been down?
