Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.
Current TBR Total: 140
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Edinburgh Twilight (Ian Hamilton Mysteries #1) by Carole Lawrence – I feel like I own this. I can’t find it anywhere, but I have that feeling. I hate that. Anyway, the idea of this book tickles my fancy. A murder mystery set in Old Town Edinburgh, a detective with a damaged past, and a rising body count. I’m on board.

The Devouring Gray (The Devouring Gray #1) by Christine Lynn Herman – Now, this isn’t my typical kind of book. Me picking up a story set in the modern world is near unheard of. However, Herman and Amanda Foody have talked so much about this book on Twitter that it has me a little hyped for it. So, I’ll give it a try. I can branch out of my usual, right?

The Glass Spare (The Glass Spare #1) by Lauren DeStefano – This book I definitely own, my problem is that I’m on a fence about actually reading it. The plot sounds like a dozen other books I’ve paged through before. Girl being used by her high and mighty father, girl has this huge secret power, war is on the horizon, and only a cursed prince can help her. Sound familiar to anyone? Ah, screw it. The reason the same general storyline pops up again and again is because it is good. I don’t have a problem with that.
♦KEEP♦
The Librarian (The Librarian Chronicles #1) by Christy Sloat – So, the premise of this one sounds interesting. A woman is thrown back in time/into an actual book after her grandmother dies and leaves her this odd collection of old books. Sounds interesting, right? My problem are the other reviews. Nearly all of them make a comment on how superficial the lead character is and that just isn’t my cup of tea.
⊗DELETE⊗
Bonfire by Krysten Ritter – When this book first came out I was super excited for it. First of all, love Krysten Ritter. She is a marvelous actress and I was anxious to see her crossover into the world of publishing. However, and there is always a however, the longer this book has been out the lower the ratings seem to get and several reviewers I trust have had many negative things to say about this book. Life is too short to read bad books.
⊗DELETE⊗
The Diabolic (The Diabolic #1) by S.J. Kincaid – Overall, this book has good rating and is currently sitting at over a 4 on Goodreads. Sounds promising, right? My problem is that I don’t think I’d ever actually pick it up. The synopsis sounds way more sci-fi than I am usually into. I would probably roll my eyes every time I read the words “galactic court.” I just don’t think this story is for me.

Have you read any of these books? Think I should have kept one that got the ax? Talk to me in the comments!
I keep hearing really good things about The Devouring Gray, too, and I do love that cover. It’s a shame about the reviews of The Librarian, it sounds so interesting. I need to have a go at this meme myself soon!

Doesn’t it sound good? And Herman seems like one of the sweetest people on the planet. Looking forward to being able to grab this one.

I adored The Diabolic when I read it earlier this summer but if you don’t enjoy Sci-Fi or books that deal with court politics, you are right to skip it!

I am normally okay with court politics but for some reason the words “galactic court” rub me the wrong way. It makes me think of Galaxy Quest (remember that movie) and I don’t think I would ever be able to get past that. Add that into sci-fi and I’m not sure I could get past it. Which, if I am being honest, kind of sucks because people seem to love this book. =(
