Top Ten Tuesday |Backlist Books I Want to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. You don’t have to do all ten. Instead you can do three, five, fifteen, whatever you want. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.

This week’s theme is Backlist Books I Want to Read. Lately I’ve been having a difficult time getting on board with the TTT themes but this one honks my horn. I have so many past published books that I want to read and just don’t think I’ll ever have time for them all. Here are some backlist books that I’m going to get around to one of these days…

A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes #3) by Sabaa Tahir – So, yeah, I devoured the first two books of this series with great enthusiasm. As soon as Reaper came out I went and bought it with money I definitely did not have at the time and prepared to read with with a gusto. It has now been sitting on my main bookshelf, looking very pretty, for months, with a bookmark sticking out the top about 1/3 of the way through. Yeah, so that happened. I really do want to finish this book!

The Case of the Deadly Doppelganger (Dr Ribero’s Agency of the Supernatural #2) by Lucy Banks  – I loved the first book in this series, The Case of the Green Dressed Ghost, and have been meaning to pick up the second in the series since it came out. Nope, hasn’t happened. The first book was such a fun and easy read, I really want to try this one, too.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff  – This is more of a “whoops, I didn’t finish this” than anything else. And that is 100% not because I didn’t enjoy it. I bought this book back in April and got through a decent chunk and then life ended up in a huge upheaval and it was horrible and I got distracted and never finished reading this book. I really, really need to.

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) by Robin LaFevers – This book was initially released in 2012 and sounds completely up my alley. Heck, I even have a copy of it in paper back that has been sitting on my shelf for, well, a while. Everything about this calls my name but for some reason I just haven’t opened it yet. Maybe it can be my next read.

The Other Boleyn Girl (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels #9) by Philippa Gregory  – THIS WAS OUT IN 2003 AND WHY HAVEN’T I READ IT YET. I adore historical fiction and the Henry VIII time frame is one of my favorites. This, the same as Grave Mercy, is also sitting on my shelf and I really need to get to it. I have been very impressed with the other Philippa Gregory books I’ve read and absolutely know that I will love this one as well.

Hunted by Meagan Spooner –  Hunted is very much loved in the YA fantasy community and, while it is yet another book I own, I still haven’t read it. I know, I know, I need to. I want to! But it isn’t at the top of my TBR. It is legitimately sitting on the shelf beside of A Reaper at the Gates. Apparently that shelf space has become no man’s land.

Royal Bastards (Royal Bastards #1) by Andrew Shvarts – Here is yet again another book that I purchased, tucked away on my shelf, and haven’t read. I feel like I have a problem. I WANT to read this book. It sounds AMAZING. Why haven’t I done it yet? WHY?! Someone kick my butt.

Ruby Red (Edelstein-Trilogie #1) by Kerstin Gier – Haha…so, yeah, this one is on my shelf, too. I really do have a problem. I don’t know if it is just my mixed cocktail talking (guys, I’ve had a bad couple weeks, give me a break) or what but it sounds good. It has also been sitting on my bedside book shelf for over a year. Published in 2011 this book is currently sitting at a 4.12 on Goodreads so why is it still sitting in my TBR unread? The world may never know.

The Hanged Man (Her Majesty’s Psychic Service #1) by P.N. Elrod – I have read the first three pages of this book a dozen times, no kidding. Why have I not got past those three pages? I have no idea. Everything about this book shouts, “AMANDA, YOU WILL LOVE ME!” But still, I have no read more than a few pages. Why the ever loving heck is wrong with me?!
