Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.
Current TBR Total: 147
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Song of the Dead (Reign of the Fallen #2) by Sarah Glenn Marsh – I am SO on board with this book. I got a chance to read the first book of the series, Reign of the Fallen, and very much enjoyed it. No, it wasn’t perfect and there were a couple things that left me scratching my head but for the most part it was very solid. I’m very much looking forward to this next installment set to release January 22, 2019
Egyptian Enigma (Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth #3) by L.J.M. Owen – This is another book that I have already read the first its series, Olmec Obituary. It was pretty good, if not quite what I expected. I already own the second book of the series so I imagine this one would be safe to stick around for a while longer, especially considering my love of all things ancient Egyptian.
The Plague Charmer by Karen Maitland – This one, while sounding a little interesting, has to go. From the description it sounds like children might die and I am NEVER okay with that. Children and animals are my two major no goes. Won’t read that, nope nope nope!
Rule (Rule #1) by Ellen Goodlett – Prior to release this book had ALL OF THE HYPE. Everyone seemed to be talking about it and, lets be honest here, that cover really draws the eye. Love a good cover. However, since the book’s release, everyone seems very disappointed with the finished product. Two reviewers I’ve come to trust have given this book one star. Just one. Needless to say, this sucker is getting the ax.
Secondborn (Secondborn #1) by Amy A. Bartol – Oh Look! Another book with some very eyes catching cover art! I’m on a fence about this one staying on my TBR, though. The description itself sounds interesting and it is sitting around a 4 on Goodreads but one of my pet peeves are females characters who you are told are strong but are shown as silly little nitwits. Not my things and Emily May, another trusted reviewer, makes it clear in spades that is highly present in this book. Sigh. I think for now it can stick around. If I change my mind later, there is nothing wrong with that.
Legacy of Kings (Blood of Gods and Royals #1) by Eleanor Herman – The “power comes from the blood” theme is so overused. Most tropes I’m fine with, but I find myself rather sick of people only having power and status because of their bloodlines. Queue heavy eye roll here. And multiple POVs, the characters sound annoying. Yeah, this has to go.
New TBR Total: 144
There is something therapeutic about weeding out your TBR pile. Just like when I clean the house and throw away a bunch of crap I’m not going to use anymore, it just feels good.
Think I made the wrong call on any of these books? Let me know! I’d love to have a chat.
