Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. You don’t have to do all ten. Instead you can do three, five, fifteen, whatever you want. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.
This week’s theme is New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018. Going into this week’s theme I wasn’t really sure what new-to-me authors I had read last year. Luckily, Goodreads came in to save the day. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Goodreads I would have very little idea of what I read last year anyway.
Everless (Everless #1) by Sara Holland – When I read this book last January I was amazed. Sometimes when you start a book you have it in your head what to expect from a debut author but I was completely wrong about Holland and her story swept me away.
Invictus by Ryan Graudin – Before I read Invictus as an audiobook in 2018 I had never so much as heard of the author. Since then, I had read this book three times, I loved it that much. It has become a source of comfort for me, a book to go back to time and again when the days are too much for me to handle.
Olmec Obituary (Dr. Pimms, Intermillenial Slueth #1) by L.J.M Owen – In 2017 I had spotted this book and yearned to read it but, at the time, I didn’t have a Kindle account and getting a hard copy of the book was far out of my price range. Last year I got my hands on the ebook and devoured it in just two sittings. I very much enjoyed this story and Owen’s writing flow and have already purchased the next book of the series to continue reading.
Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1) by Tricia Levenseller – For several months I saw this book floating around getting all kinds of hype from the reading community. I had written it off as an overhyped book and not bothered with it. When I finally did read it I could have kicked myself for avoiding it for as long as I had. It was magnificent! This book and the second of the duology made me a Levenseller fan for life.
Heart of Iron (Heart of Iron #1) by Ashley Poston – I’ll be the first to say that it was odd for me to pick up this book (which I did on a whim) because sci-fi is not my usual genre. However, Poston drug my fantasy loving butt into space and I loved it. Sure, I had a few minor complaints with the book but I am still looking forward to its sequel’s release later this year.
An Ember in the Ashes (Ember Quartet #1) by Sabaa Tahir – *breathes heavily* This. Book. Was. Amazing. Here is yet another hyped book I had put off reading, assuming it wasn’t as good as people said. I fell in love with the characters of this story, the flow, the action, everything about it blew me away. Fantastic story and it has guaranteed that I will pick up every Tahir book she ever writes.

I could legitimately keep going on with this week’s theme for another dozen books but my raging headache and I need a nap. What are some of your favorite new-to-you authors from 2018? Did any of mine make your list?
Sabaa Tahir also made it to my list 🙂

Great list! I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to give Invictus a try or not, but by the sounds of it it’s definitely a book I need to pick up at some point. 🙂

Invictus has become one of my all time favorite books. I know there are many readers that didn’t feel the same way about it but it is one of those books that arrived exactly when I needed it, you know? I hope that if you read it that you enjoy it, too!

I bought a copy of Wolf by Wolf not long ago and it has been taunting me from my bookshelf. Hopefully I get to it soon.

An Ember in the Ashes is one I keep seeing that I think I should read so after what you had to say I’m gonna try and give it a good shot of being read this year.
