In my Book Spotlight piece I will be bringing you an upcoming release and/or cover reveal. These books are ones I am excited about whether they are from a new or an established author. This week we have a book that was recently part of a bit of controversy.

Title: Blood Heir (Blood Heir #1) by Amelie Wen Zhao
Expected publication: November 19, 2019
Publisher: Delacorte Press
In the Cyrilian Empire, Affinites are reviled. Their varied gifts to control the world around them are unnatural—dangerous. And Anastacya Mikhailov, the crown princess, has a terrifying secret. Her deadly Affinity to blood is her curse and the reason she has lived her life hidden behind palace walls.
When Ana’s father, the emperor, is murdered, her world is shattered. Framed as his killer, Ana must flee the palace to save her life. And to clear her name, she must find her father’s murderer on her own. But the Cyrilia beyond the palace walls is far different from the one she thought she knew. Corruption rules the land, and a greater conspiracy is at work—one that threatens the very balance of her world. And there is only one person corrupt enough to help Ana get to its core: Ramson Quicktongue.
A cunning crime lord of the Cyrilian underworld, Ramson has sinister plans—though he might have met his match in Ana. Because in this story, the princess might be the most dangerous player of all. (Goodreads)

Something this author has is my respect. If you recall, this book was pulled from publication after many advance readers pointed out highly controversial prejudices and themes in the story. The author herself acknowledged these observations, chose to pull the book, and went to work making changes to remove the themes in question. I respect her for hearing readers complaints, understanding them, and being willing to make those changes. Now that she had made those changes the book is once again scheduled for publication and I’m looking forward to reading this one.
Agreed! I didn’t think the things people were mad about were things she intended to do. But yeah total respect for still wanting to follow her dream and working on it 🙂
