My Book Spotlight piece is meant to bring attention to upcoming releases that I am excited for or past releases that I feel just didn’t get enough love. They can be from new authors, established ones, or anything in between. This week I have a book that was brought to my attention on Twitter by Samantha Shannon.

Title: The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Publisher: Orion Children’s Books
Expected publication: September 19th, 2019
Genre(s): Fantasy, young adult, paranormal, retelling, vampires
Gothic, intoxicating, feminist, darkly provoking and deeply romantic – this is the breathtakingly imagined untold story of the brides of Dracula, by bestselling author Kiran Millwood Hargrave in her much-anticipated YA debut.
They say the thirst of blood is like a madness – they must sate it. Even with their own kin.
On the eve of her divining, the day she’ll discover her fate, seventeen-year-old Lil and her twin sister Kizzy are captured and enslaved by the cruel Boyar Valcar, taken far away from their beloved traveller community.
Forced to work in the harsh and unwelcoming castle kitchens, Lil is comforted when she meets Mira, a fellow slave who she feels drawn to in a way she doesn’t understand. But she also learns about the Dragon, a mysterious and terrifying figure of myth and legend who takes girls as gifts.
They may not have had their divining day, but the girls will still discover their fate… (Goodreads)

This book was brought to my attention by Samantha Shannon, author of The Bone Season septology and Priory of the Orange Tree, in a giveaway she as hosting on Twitter.
I love the recent reemergence of vampires in literature! And not the sparkly emo ones, but of the more Vlad type. As a teenager some of my favorite books featured the ageless Lestat and I’ve had different versions of Dracula sitting on my shelves for years. I can’t wait to read more books featuring these blood sucking creatures of the night!

I had no idea either until it popped up on Shannon’s giveaway the other day. Hadn’t heard a peep about it and it sounds so good! Hoping to spread the bookish awareness for this one.
