Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. You don’t have to do all ten. Instead you can do three, five, fifteen, whatever you want. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.
This week’s theme is Thankful Freebie. There are so many things in my life that I am thankful for. I have been blessed with a good family, a good home, wonderful pets, and relatively good health. In the bookish world, there are also things to be thankful for!
I like looking at pretty things, I’m sure most people do. But very little brings me the same joy as seeing a book with amazing cover art. Years ago I bought a book because the cover art caught my eye and it is that book that got me back into reading in my twenties and subsequently got me into book blogging. You could say that the eye catching cover art on The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon helped shape me into the person that I am today.
Let’s face it, the real world can be seriously crap. Obligations, debt, surprise bills, strained personal relations, having to pretend to be a functioning adult when you are really just a sobbing child on the inside…these things build up and cause significant stress. I am grateful to books and the transportive stories within them and their ability to let me leave behind the real world, even if just for a little while.
It has been said that having a creative outlet is a good form of personal therapy, a stress reliever, and good for centering yourself. I believe it. Since I started writing I find that the days when I do I feel so much more in control of my life and am more able to deal with things that come my way. Writing brings me a level of joy and peace that I haven’t found anywhere else.
Friends I’ve Made Along The Way
Let me get a little sappy with you all for a second. Throughout my blogging, writing, book twitter, and booktube journeys I’ve made many wonderful friends. Long ago I accepted that making friends is something I’m not particularly good at in social and face-to-face situations. But here, in the greater bookish community, I’ve met so many people that I appreciate, admire, and just genuinely enjoy talking to. Thank you all for being so lovely. I see you and appreciate you, even if I’m not particularly adapt at expressing it.
That is all for this Tuesday. I hope you all have a wonderful week. To my people in the US, Happy Thanksgiving. Take care of yourselves.
