Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. You don’t have to do all ten. Instead you can do three, five, fifteen, whatever you want. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.
This week’s theme is Books With A Single Word Title. I love this idea! Single word titles can be powerful if the right word is chosen. I’m going to be pulling my selections specifically from my owned shelves. Just glancing around my bookshelves right this moment I already see so many wonderful options. Lets jump right in!
Enchantee (Enchantee #1) by Gita Trelease – I love this title and cover. First of all, the one word French title makes it feel a little more sophisticated and then you add it in with the powerful colors and this cover really packs a punch! This book about love, magic, and revolution was one of my favorite reads of 2019
Damsel by Elana K Arnold – Again, another cover that really catches your eye. First you are struck by the title Damsel which looks like it is embers in a fire. Then you are pulled to the other colors which, if you look, appear to be hearts made of glass and if you look just at the end of the L there looks to be a barbed tail. This book spoke to me on many levels and the ending is something you don’t see coming and are oh-so-satisfied by
Nocturna (A Forgery of Magic #1) by Maya Motayne – This is a book I own but haven’t read yet, it just sits gloriously nestled between Aurora Rising and Hunted on my top shelf. This book caught my eye for several reasons, one being the Latinx inspired world. I see so little latinx in fantasy that when I spotted this book I just had to have it. Not to mention that it is yet another stunning cover. YA fantasy really has been blessed by those cover gods
Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber – Let us pretend for a moment that the third book in this series doesn’t exist, shall we? Why? Oh, because Legendary is a phenomenal read and the last book in the trilogy, Finale, is better off finding its way to the donation bin. Legendary is a wonderful book with magic, mayhem, monsters, and amour. A great followup to the slightly lackluster Caraval if you can forget that Finale exists
Invictus by Ryan Graudin – This is one of my favorite books of all time. I could read it again and again and again. Since its release in 2017 I’ve probably read it four times. The title is a large piece of this story and very fitting to the overall vibe for the whole thing. If you love a ya scifi with a complex plot, high stakes, and interesting characters then I highly, highly recommend this book
Roar (Stormheart #1) by Cora Carmack – This is a ya fantasy romance that I absolutely fell in love with. First of all, look at that cover. What a dream! Secondly, as I read along in this book it felt like some kind of a ya fantasy fairytale. I found the story interesting, the characters bewitching, and I just couldn’t put it down! The concluding book in this trilogy, Reign, is set to release August 2020 and I’m hoping it gives me the same feelings that this first novel did

Just glancing here to my left I can easily see three more one word titles just hanging out on my shelves. As I haven’t read them and don’t know enough about them I feel like I wouldn’t be able to do them justice so I’ll just list those titles below.
- Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
- Mirage (Mirage #1) by Somaiya Daud
- Rosemarked (Rosemarked #1) by Livia Blackburne
Also honorable mention to the entire Renegades Trilogy by Marissa Meyer. I’m still bitter about Supernova (Renegades #3) so I don’t want to talk about it.

Thanks for joining me for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! What are some of your favorite books with only one word in the title? Which ones do you find the most powerful?
Great list! I’ve heard so many good things about Invictus – I need to check it out – and I’d like to give Mirage and Damsel a try, too.
