Down the TBR Hole #33

TBRHOLE

Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.

Current TBR Total: 206

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

It has been more than a year since I did one of these posts. My TBR seems to have bloomed since then and, quite frankly, I don’t really like having it over 150, 175 max. Just something that makes me a little uncomfortable. So, without further ado, here we go back down the TBR Hole to see what we can cull.

Imber (Thanatos Trilogy #1) by Tyffany Hackett – I remember when I added this book back in 2018 the plot sounded fresh and exciting. Now it sounds like fifteen other things I’ve read. Normally, I don’t really mind that but I’ve read some really good examples of this and have found myself moving on from the “kingdom in peril” stories in recent months.
⊗DELETE⊗

Ghostly Echoes (Jackaby #3) by William Ritter – I…thought I already read this? Didn’t I read this? I know I read the first two books. Hm, well, I absolutely loved this first two books of this series. They were quite fun! I don’t know what I didn’t continue with the series but now that I’ve been reminded of them I most certainly am going to.
♦KEEP♦

Nyxia (The Nyxia Tried #1) by Scott Reintgen – Look, I read half of this book about two years ago and set it aside. Why? It was boring. The same plot points kept recycling themselves and it got really old, really fast. At the time I told myself, “Maybe I’ll finish this someday!” No. No, I won’t.
⊗DELETE⊗

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte – This book came in an OwlCrate box at some point in 2019 and I remember reading about a quarter of it and being infinitely bored. At the time I was very against removing books I actually owned from my TBR but no more! Sorry Queens, I won’t be coming back to finish reading you.
⊗DELETE⊗

The Binding by Bridget Collins – Eh, I can see why this would have once interested me. A magic library where you can remove you most painful memories and bind them into the pages of books. I think if the synopsis lead me to believe that there was a bit more magic and mayhem in this I’d still be interested but as it is, pass.
⊗DELETE⊗

The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox – Here is another book I own a digital copy of but I don’t see myself ever reading. That is the danger to me of these ebooks. When one that is even slightly interesting sounding goes on sale for .99 cents I tend to buy it…then never end up reading it. I think this one will sit on the shelves of my Kindle, forevermore.

New TBR Total: 201

Progress has been made! Having my TBR over 200 makes me so incredibly uncomfortable. It feels like it is creeping into a level of chaos and despite being a Leo I do NOT thrive in chaos. I also feel like my tastes have changed so much even just over the last six months that books I added over a year ago have no pull for me.

Have you read any of these? Did I delete one you feel like I should have kept? Tell me about it!

  1. Oh yes I DNF’ed Four Dead Queens after like 20% because I was SO bored. I read The Binding, but found the excecution mediocre for an interesting concept. I ended up rating it 2,5 stars.
