Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.
Current TBR Total: 199
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
LIFEL1K3 (Likelife #1) by Jay Kristoff – Ahem, I’ve actually tried to read this twice. Once as a physical copy and once as audio. I just couldn’t get into it. In truth, I just don’t think Kristoff is for me. I’ve read four of his books now in full and haven’t truly enjoyed any of them. Perhaps it is time to throw in the towel…even though I know I’ll give in and read his vampire novel next year. Yikes.
Strange Tide (Bryant & May #13) by Christopher Fowler – I absolutely love the Bryant and May series by Christopher Fowler. He writes such a good mystery with interesting, unexpected characters and settings that, even though I’ve seen none of them, feel alive. These will forever be some of my favorite books
The Mortal Word (The Invisible Library #5) by Genevieve Cogman – Here is another series that I am in love with. It is part fantasy, part mystery, part historical fiction, and all fun and fascinating. The settings change with each book with one anchor point, the Invisible Library itself. The characters grow and change, the mysteries keep you on your toes, and the fantastical elements never feel out of place. Wonderful series.
Ruin of Stars (Mask of Shadows #2) by Linsey Miller – My feelings on this book are fairly two sided. On one hand, I enjoyed the first book of this duology fairly well. I liked that the main character was non binary and the use of they/them was normalized, the story was also entertaining. On the other hand, I got a physical ARC of the second book and just couldn’t get into it. I just don’t think I’ll ever finish it.
Mirage (Mirage #1) Somaiya Daud – I bought this one not too long ago because I wanted a relatively short (for fantasy) read and the promised scifi elements pulled at me. Of course, then I fell into an epic reading slump but what can you do. I know I’ll pick this book up eventually.
Poison Study (Study #1) by Maria V Snyder – I don’t remember why I added this one to my shelves. Nothing about the description pulls at me. Girl, castle, rebels, and I’m sure she does something special which just makes everyone think she is amazing. I’ve had enough of that worn out plot line for a while.
New TBR Total: 196
I love doing these Down the TBR Hole posts. Finding books I’ve added ages ago and forgotten about is exciting, so is culling the ones that no longer suit my interests. Just something about it makes me happy and I hope you enjoy looking through these books with me as well!
