Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.
Current TBR Total: 199
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton – I do believe I added this book after Meltotheany recommended it in one of her early BookTube videos. It really does sound interesting. I typically find myself drawn to stories where the devil in whatever form is rumored to come to earth and cause some sort of havoc. I’m fairly certain that I’ll read this eventually.
The Prior of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon – Ya’ll, I’ve said I’m going to start this twelve times now and I never get more than a couple chapters in. Not because I don’t like it, it seems like a marvelous story and I adore Samantha Shannon. No, my problem is that big books and I…well, we aren’t friends. I have a very short attention span and seeing how big this sucker is is intimidating. However, I will never delete it. I may die with this still on my TBR but I will never delete it.
Belle Revolte by Linsey Miller – Alright, when this book was first announced I was very excited. When I read Miller’s Mask of Shadows I really enjoyed it and it had some rep I hadn’t read in YA fantasy before. I have to be honest though, I don’t see myself ever reading it. It seems to be a fantasy with castles, battles, something at stake, and a less than competent ruler. I just am not as interested in those stories anymore.
Dark Age (Red Rising Saga #5) by Pierce Brown – …no, I still haven’t read this. You saw my comment above with Priory and my problems with big books, right? They are so intimidating for me. I have the attention span of a happy puppy. I’m going to have to have surgery sometime later this year and likely won’t be able to move around a bunch so maybe I’ll save my chonker books until then.
Soul of Stars (Heart of Iron #2) by Ashley Poston – When I read Poston’s Heart of Iron I really enjoyed it! I liked the sci-fi take on an Anastasia retelling and how it was a fast moving pace (please see my attention span comments). I know once I pick this up I will really enjoy it, the book just hasn’t been a priority yet but I think I will get to it soon.
Wicked Saints (Something Dark and Holy #1) by Emily A. Duncan – At the time this book was announced I was so excited to read it! I love a dark fantasy, they are some of my favorite reads. Actually, I own two copies of this- the original white cover and the OwlCrate black edition which is beautiful. However, I’ve tried to read this thing twice and the writing style and story flow are just very off for me. No thought was put into the pacing of the story, the dialogue is stilted, and the reasons the characters do anything are just preposterous. Not to mention that the characters themselves are absolutely laughable tropes. I can’t do it.
New TBR Total: 196
You may be saying, “Hey, Amanda. You started with 199 and deleted two books, how did you end up with 196? Are you that bad at math?”
Well, possibly. However, while I was doing this I found a duplicate book on my TBR and deleted it as well. I like deleting.
Have you read any of these? What do you think of them?
