Down the TBR Hole #37

Welcome again to Down the TBR Hole! This meme came from Lost in a Story. All book descriptions taken from Goodreads.

Current TBR Total: 198

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Hall of Mirrors (Bryant & May #15) by Christopher Fowler – I started reading the Bryant and May series around ten years ago now and I don’t think I will ever stop loving these books. They are some of the very few stories I read with a more modern setting because for me the highlight of these books are the magnificent characters and the mysteries I can never crack. They could take place anywhere, anytime and I would still love them

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern – Look, I bought this book without even know the plot. Why? Because it is Erin Morgenstern. No matter how many times I read her The Night Circus I am continuously swept up and away by the story. She is one of my few auto buy authors and when I’m in the more for a more chonky adult fantasy I will definitely reach for this.

Nightchaser (Endeavour #1) by Amanda Bouchet – I have absolutely no recollection of adding this to my TBR. Boy, that cover is sure a beaut, though. Now that I’ve read the description I have to keep this book on my TBR. Look at this quote, “Shade Ganavan had oodles of arrogance, oodles of charm, and oodles of something that made me want to kick him in the nuts.” Yup, she’s a keeper.

City of Bastards (Royal Bastards #2) by Andrew Shvarts – Am I interested in this book? Sure. I own the first one in the series. The problem is that first book has been sitting on my shelf for a couple years and I still haven’t read it. I think for now I’m going to take this off the TBR. When I get around to reading book one if I like it I’ll re-add it.

The Brilliant Death (The Brilliant Death #1) by Amy Rose Capetta – While I have been distancing myself from the usual “empire in danger” fantasy novels, this one still feels like it clicks with me. I don’t own it yet but I feel like if I popped this book open I’d really get sucked in. It is definitely staying not he TBR.

Amber & Dusk (Amber & Dusk #1) by Lyra Selene – Oddly, I actually own two copies of this. One is the OwlCrate version with the alternate cover you see above, the other is an ARC that I won in a giveaway. I actually started reading this in December of 2018 but didn’t get very far into it. Can’t say I really remember why. It sounds like it could be interesting and it is a rather short book. Eh, it can stick around for now.

New TBR Total: 197

Whelp, that was a decidedly unproductive Down the TBR Hole. Oh well, I would rather keep books on my TBR that I am truly interested in rather than delete them just for the sake of keeping my number down.

Did you see any books on this week’s list that also have your interest? Any I kept you think should have gone in the bin? Tell me about it!
