WWW Wednesday | April 29

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words and was formerly hosted by A Daily Rhythm. It is open for anyone to participate, even without a blog you can comment on Sam’s post with your own answers. It is a great way to share what you’ve been reading! All you have to do is answer three questions and share a link to your blog in the comments section of Sam’s blog.

The three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes #2) by Brittany Cavallaro – I’m not really sure what spurred me to pick this up through Libby. I read the first book in this series a considerable time ago and I can’t say that I remember too much about it. So far this second installment is slightly amusing but it had a very, very slow start. Will I finish it? Will I DNF it? I’m really not sure at this point.

What did you recently finish reading?

A Murderous Relation (Veronica Speedwell #5) by Deanna Raybourn – I have absolutely adored the first four books in this series, so much so that I’ve read them all twice. When I cracked this one open, I expected more of the same. Unfortunately, and it pains me to say this, A Murderous Relation was a bit of a bore. Each of the other books had an overarching theme that would ultimately tie the entire story together and I just didn’t get that with this one. I will still continue reading the series but I hope the next one has a bit more zing to it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes #3) by Sabaa Tahir – ….I think we both know at this point that I never actually read what I say I’m going to in this section despite my ongoing good intentions. I’m just not the kind of person that sticks to a TBR. Despite that, I truly do want to read Reaper but its the kind of book I’m going to need to be in the mood for and will probably have to go through my notes on the first two books before I tackle this one.

  1. I’ve seen a few people saying that Last of August wasn’t great. I read A Study in Charlotte a few months ago but haven’t got round to the second one yet.

    1. I actually wrote this post a couple days before it published have DNFed the book since then. The entire first quarter of it put me to sleep. I hit around 50% before I decided enough was enough. The first book was most definitely better.

    1. Both Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell and Lady Julia Grey series are both great if you enjoy historical mysteries with the addition of seriously slow burn romance. Despite this latest book not being my favorite, I highly recommend both series!
