Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. You don’t have to do all ten. Instead you can do three, five, fifteen, whatever you want. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.
This week’s theme is Things I’d Have at my Bookish Party. I admit, I haven’t been doing a lot of Top Ten Tuesday posts this year because the themes just do not spark anything and this one is much of the same. But, lets give it a shot and see what we come up with. If it is crap I warned you.
Characters I’d Invite
The Darkling – Let us cast this party, shall we? Let’s suspend reality and take this party to a more Victorian themed time. Surrounded at a sprawling manor by glittering ballgowns, impeccable manners, and elegant canapés and you are starting to get bored by all of the restrained mannerisms and are considering leaving for the night. In walks The Darkling. He allows himself to be announced at the head of the stairs and the room goes quiet moments before the crowd begins not so quietly whispering, telling tales of his misdeeds and dark reputation. You definitely aren’t leaving now. Every party needs its bad influence and now all carefully crafted manners are out the window. Do you long to catch his attention or run from it?
Aelin Galathynius – Next sweeping in wearing a ballgown that catches the eye and envy of everyone in the room is Aelin Galathynius. Little does the crowd know that there are daggers and wicked knives strapped to her thighs that she can access at a moment’s notice with deadly consequences. With cold steel and rustling silk against her skin she looks exactly like the queen she is. Confidence and power radiate from her and the crowd watches as she flashes a wicked grin the Darkling’s direction. They don’t know if they want to be her or just want her.
Alosa, Daughter of the Pirate King – From the corner of the room Alosa keeps a close eye on the two new comers. She can feel a storm brewing and knows nothing good will come of it. She should make a break for it now and head back to her ship, a good pirate knows when to cut her losses and the crew is waiting for her, but she hasn’t yet retrieved what she snuck into this party for. The information that could free her from her father’s stranglehold is in the hands of someone in this room and she will have it.
Grey, A Curse so Dark and Lonely – Ever the loyal guard, Grey too can feel the tension in the room beginning to stir. With one hand already on his sword, ready to draw and protect those present, his scans the crowd. His eyes fix on the Darkling and he knows that when, not if, problems arise it will stem from that man. He makes his way along the edge of the crowd, careful to not draw attention, to get himself closer to the potential threat.
Imagine, if you will, the absolute disaster that would come with these characters all being in the same room together. If Aelin and the Darkling came to blows who do you think would win? Would Alosa get what she came for and make a break for it? Would Grey be able to stem the violence and save the bystanders? Who knows but it would make for one memorable party!
