It is hard to believe but the end of 2020 is already starting its creep up upon us. I feel like I have done nothing worthy of note since December 31st but a pandemic and enthusiastic social distancing will do that to you. However, before this year winds down there is something I hope to accomplish. In January I made a list of books I wanted to get read during the year and, well, I have not been exactly successful with that. After culling the initial list, here are the books I hope to read by the end of 2020.
Where Dreams Descend (Kingdom of Cards #1) by Janella Angeles – Very early this year buzz around this book started to make its way into the world. Early readers had some lovely things to say, the plot sounded fascinating, and that cover is absolutely eye catching. I received a stunning copy of this in an OwlCrate box before its official release and…stuck it on my shelf. Every summer I have a terrible reading slump where I don’t read for months and this year that slump lasted nearly three months. Summer and I do not get along. However, I’m officially placing this book on my “must complete by the end of the year” list. I am anticipating this book to receive a solid four stars from me.
A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (Blood and Ash #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – Wowie zowie! This book released far sooner that I expected it to and it is without a doubt on my last quarter TBR! From Blood and Ash was my first read from Armentrout and it blew me away. I never wanted to set it down! Her writing style, characters, and story for this series are absolutely up my alley and I expect to give this book five stars. There, I said it. I think I have only given two five-star reviews this year but this book will very likely be the third!
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab – Ya’ll. I feel like I am going to go hard for this book. Consider this your advance warning. Even the synopsis just sucks me in. I NEED to read this book. I was lucky enough to snag the OwlCrate special edition box for this book and I cannot wait for it to arrive on my doorstep. Expect me to howl about it because I sure intend to. This is another book that I fully expect to give a five-star rating.
The Bone Shard Daughter (The Drowning Empire #1) by Andrea Stewart – This being on my TBR is almost entirely the fault of Judith at Dead Good Book Reviews. I love watching her BookTube channel and she has brought this title up consistently the last few months. Judith’s channel is one of my favorites and I’ve come to trust her book judgement. So, what did I do? Ordered the book of course! Shipping was delayed due to COVID (damn) but once this book comes in I am going to disappear into my reading cave for a solid few days. I expect to give this title four stars.
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow – I started reading this book the first time back in April as the flowers were starting to bloom and the birds were singing through my window. However, I quickly decided that this was going to be a book to read in the fall. I just couldn’t get into it with all those birds chirping merrily. So, it got nudged back in the TBR and now delightful autumn is upon us in this hemisphere and I’ll be pulling it back off the shelf soon. This is another book I expect to give a four-star rating to.
I’m trying not to be overly ambitious for my definite TBR for the rest of the year. I’m very much a mood reader and like to give myself the room to make those spur of the moment choices instead of having a rigid list.
What books are you hoping to finish by the end of the year?
