Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. You don’t have to do all ten. Instead you can do three, five, fifteen, whatever you want. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.
This week’s theme is Books I Read Because Someone Recommended Them to Me. Along with that I am going to do Books I Want to Read Someone Recommended to Me. In this modern world where people can connect to anyone at all points on the globe getting recommendations on good books is always as close as our fingertips.
Recommended Books I Have Read
Shadow and Bone (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #1) by Leigh Bardugo – So, yeah. This book and author come highly recommend from so many people in our wonderful bookish community. I read this book last fall after seeing scores of people recommend it fervently. Despite the fact that I didn’t enjoy Bardugo’s Six of Crows I still very much enjoyed this title. The other two books in the trilogy were crap but this one was amazing.
Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi – Here is another book that comes highly recommended by the YA fantasy bookish community. While most people seem to have read this book and series years ago when it initially came out in 2012, I read it for the first time in late 2019 after the market had shifted from this type of YA dystopian novel. However, I still loved it. It was heavy on the cliches and romance aspects but those are things that I enjoy so who am I to judge? A reviewer, that’s who I am to judge…and I loved it.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston – Look, this is not my typical kind of book. I don’t do contemporary. Fantasy, sci fi, historical fiction, historical mysteries, historical romance…those are my jams. Contemporary? Nah. However, for quite a while there you couldn’t sneeze without this book being shoved in your face so, being susceptible to hype recommendations, I read it. I LOVED this book.
Books I Want to Read Someone Recommended to Me
- Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust
- Gideon the Ninth (The Locked Tomb #1) by Tamsyn Muir
- The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow
All three of these books are HYPED and highly recommended within the bookish community. I even own Gideon and January but haven’t read either of them. Yikes. I don’t know, I am very susceptible to hype and take most suggestions and recommendations thrown my way seriously and end up picking them up at least out of curiosity at some point.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! May you all be happy, healthy, and well read. 🖤
Great list! I love The Ten Thousand Doors of January – and I’m currently reading Harrow’s second novel and love it even more – but I still need to get to Gideon the Ninth and Girl, Serpent, Thorn.

I know, right? You see it everywhere! At this point it is so hyped I’m a little nervous to read it. 🤣
