Series I Need to Finish

In the life of a reader, being in the middle of reading a series seems to be a common theme. We start a series, read the first book or two of it, then get distracted by the next shiny new story and forget to go back and finish the series. Or, as is more common for me, I read the first couple books and then I have to wait for the next one to be released and promptly forget about it.

Here are series that I hope to continue reading or to finish in 2021.

The Blood and Ash series by Jennifer L. Armentrout – I absolutely adore this series. The first two books, From Blood and Ash and A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire were released in 2020 and honestly were a bright spot in the year for me. I actually ended up reading them both twice by the end of the year. The third and final book in the trilogy, The Crown of Gilded Bones, is set for release on April 20 and this is one series I’m going to be jumping on to finish.

The Red Rising Series by Pierce Brown – This one brings me shame every time I think about it. I have read the original trilogy twice and I absolutely adore it. I also own copies of Iron Gold and Dark Age which have been sitting on my shelves since their release dates. Have I read either of them? No, no I have not. What is holding me back? I know I will love them, Brown’s writing is phenomenal. This is the year folks, the year I read the rest of the released Red Rising books.

Heart of Iron duology by Ashley Poston – When I read Heart of Iron back in 2018 I really enjoyed it. This retelling of Anastasia is fast paced, full of interesting characters, and is definitely more sci-fi leaning without going all in with the tech which I find can be overwhelming. I had preordered Soul of Stars in 2019 and expected to read it as soon as it released. Of course, I got distracted by the wealth of other books that came out in 2019 and this one got tucked on a shelf. I’d love to finish this duology this year. Poston’s writing is easy to read and pulls you along without realizing you’ve even been swept up.

Reign of the Fallen series by Sarah Glenn Marsh – Look. I’m terrible about reading both books in a duology. It’s a thing. I’m not proud of it. When I read reign of the Fallen I very much enjoyed it. I felt like Marsh wrote a complex and interesting lead character who dealt with grief in a believable and relatable way. Honestly, that is something I don’t often see. Song of the Dead came out and I snatched it off a shelf immediately and trotted home with it proudly in a bag. Obviously, it has lived on a shelf since then. Why do I do this to myself? I need to finish reading this duology. Marsh’s writing deserves that from me.

I am truly surprised that I haven’t finished these books as I am very much completionist. Leaving something half done drives me up a wall. Are there any series you need to finish reading this year?
