We have all done it. We finish a book, are in the mood to read another, but just can’t decide what to read next. No matter whether you are a TBR type reader or a mood reader, I feel like we have all been there at one point or another. Unread books run amok in our homes, our “want to read” files are miles long, ARCs are demanding our attention, but nothing is quite hitting the spot.

So, I thought today we would sit together and take a gander at a few of the books that are most drawing my eye right now and see if we can’t find something to read.

• Hall of Smoke (Hall of Smoke #1) by H.M. Long – Hall of Smoke is an adult fantasy with its foundation in religious zealotry. This book sounds like it has a little bit of everything. A woman on a quest for redemption, corrupt leaders, deceit, battles, and the promise of a powerful new enemy waiting on the horizon. The only thing that seems to be missing from this one for me is a bit of romance, as I do like my fantasy with a smattering of longing and lust, but overall it sounds pretty good.
• Ariadne by Jennifer Saint – Since middle school I have had an obsession with mythology and ancient history and of course the Greek mythos has been part of that obsession. How could I pass on picking up a book about Ariadne, a figure entwined in the Labyrinth and Minotaur myths. This book has been snagging my attention for a while but I hadn’t picked it up because I wasn’t sure my brain was in the space for adult fiction-mythology. Do you have the problem where there are times that you brain just can’t process anything more complicated than form style happily ever after?
• The Lost Vintage by Ann Mah – This year I have been trying to read a little more outside of my typical YA fantasy romps. This is one of the books outside of that category that caught my eye. A woman is at a turning point in her life and is feeling a little lost so she returns to her family’s vineyard in Burgundy. There she finds herself caught up in an historical mystery involving a hidden room on the estate and evidence of its use during WWII along with missing bottles of valuable wine. Is this book completely and entirely outside of my usual range of interests? Yes, but something about it pulls at me.

• The Merciful Crow (The Merciful Crow #1) by Margaret Owen – I’ve been reading a lot more adult fiction and fantasy lately but YA is still something I enjoy and this book has been sitting on my shelves for a while, tempting me. We have mercy killings, a crown prince who seems to be making questionable choices, the tempting promise of romance, a cunning body guard…yes please! Sure, this book has been called a cookie cutter YA fantasy but ya’ll, I like that kind of thing.
• The Silvered Serpents (The Gilded Wolves #2) by Roshani Chokshi – Here is another book that has been sitting on my shelves for a year that I really should have picked up by now. I very much enjoyed The Gilded Wolves and find myself thinking about that book fairly often even though it has been two years since I read it. I even have the third book in this series preordered even though I haven’t read this one. Maybe this is a guilt read temptation, I don’t know, but my hand still itches to pick it up.
• Wings of Fury (Wings of Fury #1) by Emily R. King – I actually won a copy of this one from the author’s giveaway earlier this year and it sounds completely up my alley. Vengeful and violent gods, a woman standing up against the system of oppression, an outright rebellion…there is nothing about this that doesn’t sound fantastic. I honestly don’t know why I haven’t picked this one up yet. It ticks so many boxes of things I like to read.
