King of Scars (King of Scars #1) by Leigh Bardugo – ✮✮✮ This book was…fine. I genuinely enjoyed the chapters from Zoya’s perspective and found her development and insights entertaining. It was the Nina bits that kind of killed the for me. I didn’t particularly like Nina’s character in Six of Crows and nothing has changed. It also had a lot of unnecessary fluff that made it drag on and on and on…
A Hunt of Shadows (A Trial of Sorcerers #2) by Elise Kova – ✮✮ I loved the first book in this series but this one was mind numbingly bad. The plot was repetitive, the lead character had all the sense of a cat on catnip, the support characters were cardboard cut outs, and I honestly don’t think that the plot progressed overall in the book. I have loved many of Kova’s books but this is not one of them.
Captured by the Monster by R.L. Caulder – ✮ Look, I understand reading erotic fantasy you aren’t often going to get a solid plot but this one was an outright yikes. I don’t even know what to say about this book. The sex scenes weren’t horrible if you can look over the part where they are using a fantasy version of a date rape drug and emotional manipulation to reach a goal. I sure can’t.
These are just a couple of the books I’ve read recently that I just didn’t have enough to say about to need a full review. As opinionated as I am, sometimes that happens.
What is one of your favorite books that you can read to bounce back from a really crappy or mediocre read?
Happy reading 🖤
