Favorites So Far In 2022

We are all very much aware that, so far, 2022 has been an absolute shit show. “New year new me” has turned into the war in Ukraine, new strains of COVID, inflation, and companies still not respecting their employees. My Big Sad and existential dread lead me trying to find some bright spots for far this year.

And what is brighter than escapism? In this case, it took the form of my favorite books so far this year which I thought I’d share with you!

Network Effect (The Murderbot Diaries #5) by Martha Wells – I have talked until I was blue in the face about Murderbot. These stories manage to explore what it is to be human while being written through the lens of something decidedly not human. They are humorous, adventurous, and explore the bonds that bind living things together in an epically entertaining, sci-fi fashion.

Year of the Reaper by Makiia Lucier – This book’s main character is unapologetically broken. After years of mental and physical abuse, he has broken free of his imprisonment and seeks to return to a normal life. With that comes his efforts on coping with his trauma, reestablishing former bonds, and trying to become the person he wants to be. All within an imaginative fantasy setting. I absolutely loved this book and can see myself re-reading it often.

The War of Two Queens (Blood and Ash #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – I’ve not been shy in shouting about how much I’ve enjoyed this series. Well, except the third book, that one let me down, but this was another 5 star installment for me. Poppy’s growth as a character is phenomenal and I loved getting to see more of her interactions with Kieran outside of being Cas’ friend. So much plot progression in this one as well, can’t wait to see where it goes in the next book!

Electric Idol (Dark Olympus #2) by Katee Robert – Hot damn, was this a good book! From page one I was invested in the characters and, let me tell you, that romance had my full and undivided attention. There is blood shed, fabulous sex scenes, tension, and the overarching plot kept me glued to the page. Absolutely love this series. Robert hit it out of the park!

So far, those are all of my five star reads in 2022. But, we are not even half way through the year so I very much expect that there will be more to come.

Share some of your favorite reads so far this year with me. I’d love to hear about them!

Happy reading 🖤

  1. Ah, you’ve reminded me that I’ll need to continue Martha Wells’s series. Didn’t really enjoy the first book, to be honest, but I’m going to give it a second shot. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
