Reflection | Most Anticipated Releases of First Quarter 2022

Something I have found I enjoy doing is looking back on past TBRs and anticipated lists and taking mental stock of what I thought of those books. Was I right in choosing them? Why did I or did I not enjoy about them? Did I actually read them at all?

I’ve been doing this for myself for a while now and thought I’d share it with you as well! So, today, we are going to look back at my most anticipated list from the first quarter of 2022 and see, first, if I read the books and, secondly, if I enjoyed them.

You can view the original Most Anticipated of 2022 | First Quarter post here.

  • ✔︎A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft – In my original post I said that this book sounded fabulous and I stand by that. The description really leads me to think of spooky vibes and a quiet, slow paced fantasy. Unfortunately, this ended up being a DNF for me. The story had good bones but I think Saft’s writing just doesn’t work for me. young adult, fantasy, romance (March 8) DNF
  • ✔︎This Woven Kingdom (This Woven Kingdom #1) by Tahereh Mafi – When I saw this book announced I was very excited! This is the first title I’ve seen from Mafi outside of her Selection series and I was ready to put my grubby little hands on it. Happy to say that I was absolutely right! This book swept me up in its fantasy story with a bit of mystery and romance woven in. Highly recommend for fans of YA fantasy young adult, fantasy, romance, mythology (February 1) 4/5
  • ✔︎Electric Idol (Dark Olympus #2) by Katee Robert – This. Book. Was. Fire. Absolutely loved it. Of course, I expected to because I loved the first book in this series and Katee Robert rarely disappoints. Drama, danger, romance, political intrigue, difficult familial bonds…love everything about this story. adult, erotic, romance, retelling (January 18) 5/5
  • ✔︎The War of Two Queens (Blood and Ash #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – So, I went into this book with some trepidation. I didn’t not really enjoy the third book of the series even though the first two are favorites of mine. But, I gave it a go anyway and ended up really loving it! Poppy very much came into her own in this story and watching her growth and confidence was fabulous. Still wish Cas would stop being such a love-struck sack of flesh though. new adult, fantasy, romance (March 22) 5/5

Big Yikes! from me here. I didn’t read any of these four books. They are all sitting nestled on my shelf but I just haven’t got to them. That’s fine. I’m such a big mood reader than one random Tuesday I am going to be making my morning coffee and have the sudden and inexplicable urge to pick up one of these titles. The last two months have been absolute chaos and stress for me so I’m really not surprised I haven’t reached for more new titles yet.

Overall, I don’t think that I did too badly! I have read half of my most anticipated list for first quarter and honestly that is pretty darn good.

Do you go back and check up on your most anticipated lists? Do you find yourself actually reading them all in a timely manner?

Happy reading! 🖤

  1. I’ve been a little better this year about reading my anticipated books– especially the ones I have purchased– in a timely fashion. It helps when I get them from the library, and so have a built-in deadline.

  2. The City of Dusk is good! Just needs a little more world-building, in my opinion. I can’t wait to get to the Veronica Speedwell book!!
