I think we all (or at least most of us) have a set or list of books that seem to regularly come up in posts and conversations. We may not mean to, but they have become our go-to selections when prompted for opinions, both positive and negative. This can lead to inadvertently not discussing books we enjoyed because they just aren’t the ones that pop to the forefront of our minds when we are called up for opinions.
Or is this just me?
Either way, I wanted to bring up some titles with you today that I may not talk about often but they very much deserve to be part of the bookish conversation.
Something I have found I enjoy doing is looking back on past TBRs and anticipated lists and taking mental stock of what I thought of those books. Was I right in choosing them? Why did I or did I not enjoy about them? Did I actually read them at all?
I’ve been doing this for myself for a while now and thought I’d share it with you as well! So, today, we are going to look back at my most anticipated list from the first quarter of 2022 and see, first, if I read the books and, secondly, if I enjoyed them.
Title: The Stardust Thief (The Sandsea Trilogy #1) by Chelsea Abdullah
Publication: May 17, 2022
Genre(s): adult, fantasy, retelling
As a person who loves to talk about books, I spend I great deal of time discussing what I’m reading in the moment, what I just finished, or what I plan on picking up next. Rarely do I just have a chat about recent books that simply caught my eye.
So, that’s what we are going to do here. Let’s have a chat about the last couple books that I added to my general (not owned) TBR because they caught my attention for one reason or another. Pretty simple, right?
Title: Forestfall (World at Lake’s Edge #2) by Lyndall Clipstone
Publication: September 27, 2022
Genre(s): young adult, fantasy, gothic, horror
We are all very much aware that, so far, 2022 has been an absolute shit show. “New year new me” has turned into the war in Ukraine, new strains of COVID, inflation, and companies still not respecting their employees. My Big Sad and existential dread lead me trying to find some bright spots for far this year.
And what is brighter than escapism? In this case, it took the form of my favorite books so far this year which I thought I’d share with you!
So many books, so little time!
We’ve all done it. An upcoming release catches our attention with all the buzz hopping around about it and we add it to our TBR list. There, it languishes for months, sometimes even years, until you’ve all but forgotten about it. It finally gets relocated to your TBR graveyard, never to be heard from again.
Maybe that is a little dramatic but you get my point. These are some of the books that I have nudged into that TBR graveyard recently.
Title: A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Fox Meadows
Publication: July 26, 2022
Genre(s): adult, fantasy, LGBT, romance
Title: The War of Two Queens (Blood and Ash #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Published: March 15, 2022
Genre(s): new adult, fantasy, romance
Read as: ebook, owned
There are more books in the world than a person could ever read in their lifetime. There are more books even just in one genre than a person could ever conceivably read. Because of this, sadly, we all have to choose what we are going to read and sometimes that means setting some books aside or overlooking them entirely.
However, sometimes a book is so highly recommended, or someone you share bookish tastes with loves a book so much, that a title you would normally not have glanced twice at catches your interest.
