First Line Fridays – May 18
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
ARC Review | Legendary by Stephanie Garber
Title: Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber
Publisher: Flatiron Books
Anticipated publication date: May 29, 2018
Average Goodreads rating: 4.53
My rating: 4.5
A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.
After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.
Welcome, welcome to Caraval…the games have only just begun Continue reading
Free Write Fridays – February 23
Most Fridays I will be posting a book review, hopefully, but I wanted to add something else. Reviews are wonderful but some Fridays just need a little something extra, especially those weeks that I don’t have a review to offer. In comes Free Write Friday.
The concept – Free Write Fridays will contain a short passage, poem, excerpt, letter to a senator, or anything else that has gone from my brain to the page during the week that is not a part of my main writing project. I often find myself jotting down a random free write when I’m frustrated with my main project and then it ends up moldering in a folder. Instead, I think I’ll share them with you. Could be fun! Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) by Laini Taylor
“He looked him right in the eyes and saw a man who was great and good and human, who had done extraordinary things and terrible things and been broken and reassembled as a shell, only then to do the bravest thing of all: He had kept on living, though there are easier paths to take.”
Throwback Thursday – Bitterblue (Graceling Realm #3) by Kristin Cashore
Renee began Throwback Thursday at Its Book Talk as a way to share some of her old favorites as well as sharing books that she wants to read that were published over a year ago. Books that were published over a year ago are almost always easier to find at libraries or at a discounted sale price. As I have been sifting through my TBR list and purging those books that no longer hold my interest, I came across several from years past that I’d love to share with you! Continue reading

Down the TBR Hole # 14
Welcome once again to Down the TBR Hole! This is my twelfth time doing this and, unfortunately, I’ve added several books to my TBR since the last time I did this. I just couldn’t help myself! So many wonderful sounding books are being announced, I would be remiss to leave any of them out. Lets see if we can cull any of the older ones today, shall we? Continue reading
Book Spotlight – Catwoman: Soulstealer (DC Icons #3) by Sarah J. Maas
Each week in my Book Spotlight piece I will be bringing you an upcoming release. These books are ones I am excited about whether they are from a new or an established author. This week we have one from popular fantasy author Sarah J. Maas! Continue reading
NaNoWriMo 2017 – WINNER
That’s right folks. I did it. I completed my first NaNoWriMo. Official final NaNo word count is 53,200. I have already dove into editing and am really loving it. I’ve heard from others that editing is terrible and difficult but so far I far prefer it to drafting. The tweaking, adding little bits, correcting things that went a little off in drafting…for me it is fun!
Did you participate in NaNoWriMo this year? How did you do? Talk to me!
